Fire Alarms & Emergency Lighting
In recent times, fire alarms and emergency lighting have become a legal requirement in all public premises including offices and apartments. These systems must be intensely designed and constructed to comply with regulations set out by government departments. Our team of professionals here at DMG Electrical are highly experienced at the design, installation, and servicing of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems for residential and commercial customers throughout Ireland.
The modern systems we work with are designed to fit in with interior design and are user-friendly. Finding the right system to suit the premises is important to us. This reduces the risk of false alarms and makes testing at regular intervals much more efficient. We at DMG Electrical pride ourselves in having a vast knowledge of all modern fire alarms and emergency lighting systems on the market.

Addressable Fire Alarm Systems
Addressable fire alarm systems provides specific details on individual fire detector locations, whereas conventional systems only give information about areas or zones of a building. Addressable or ‘intelligent’ fire alarm systems are designed for larger buildings and are capable of being networked with adjoining addressable fire alarm systems. Addressable systems are more expensive than conventional two-or four-wire systems but have more information, increased flexibility, speed of identification, and can be easily controlled.
Addressable systems are typically used in larger commercial buildings with more than 40 devices and has the ability to direct services to exact the fire/fault location. In addressable systems, different devices are wired in one or more single loops of cable around the premises, requiring less cabling than conventional systems, with each detector or call point having its own unique address.
Here at DMG Electrical, we can design, install and commission all systems. Contact us today to find out more about our addressable fire alarm systems.
Analogue Fire Alarm Systems
The alternative system which we work with are analogue fire alarm systems. They act by receiving a signal which has been transmitted via a single cable running through all installed detection devices. Analogue fire alarm systems signal control panels via one continuous wire which links all of the devices and, as a result, are less likely to face the wiring challenges seen in conventional fire alarm systems. This added reliability ensures that business operations are not interrupted by the hassle of false alarms, unnecessary evacuations and emergency procedures.
In the event of a fire alarm activated on an analogue fire system, occupants can be confident in the reality of the threat and respond appropriately without question. Analogue systems are usually 4 zone systems with no more than four devices. This kind of system is suitable for small commercial units.

Emergency Lighting
Fire alarms and emergency lighting systems go hand in hand when it comes to building safety. As the name suggests, emergency lighting is critical in the event of power failures to guide building occupants to safety. We offer different types of emergency lighting systems to ensure your premises complies with Irish health & safety legislation.
Emergency Escape Lighting
Part of the emergency lighting system that provides illumination to guide building occupants to a safe exit location.
Escape Route Lighting
Ensures the means of escape can be effectively identified and safely used by occupants of the building.
Standby Lighting
Allows normal activities to continue in a safe manner during a power failure.
Maintenance & Testing
All electrical installations and systems require regular testing and maintenance, this is especially true when it comes to systems designed to save lives. Once your fire alarm system and emergency lighting is installed it must be tested on a regular basis.
Under Irish law both your fire alarm system and emergency lighting must be tested by a qualified professional four times a year. These requirements are detailed in the Fire Services Act 1981-2003 and the Building Regulations Act 1997-2017. The Fire Services Act specifies that it is the duty of every persons having control of premises, for example the owner or occupier of a building, to ensure the safety of every persons on the premises in the event of an outbreak of fire. In reference to emergency lighting the Building Regulations Act requires the provision of sufficient lighting to enable people to use escape routes safely.
Fire systems and emergency lighting safety should go beyond the quarterly professional testing. Every day some basic visual checks of safety systems should take place. At DMG Electrical we can manage your legal testing and process the required certification. We can also train key staff members about the appropriate daily and weekly system checks to ensure everything is working perfectly.
DMG Electrical also offer emergency support in case of a system failure. Our vans are always on call whenever you need them. Speak to one of our team today about maintaining and testing your electrical systems.
Satisfaction Guaranteed
I can’t recommend DMG Electrical highly enough. We bought a home in Athlone and at the time we knew there was lots of work needed to be done. Most of the house needed rewiring, but we also wants to make some major upgrades to the lighting design and bring the old house up-to-date. We spoke to several companies but when we met David we know DMG Electrical was the right company for us.
The whole team was fantastic. They brought lots of ideas to the table and explained everything is great detail. The work was completed on time and on budget and the team were a joy to work with. We’ve used DMG Electrical for a number of smaller jobs over the years and would not trust anyone else. Put simply they are a brilliant company to work with.
